A new EU law, which requires all EU area (including Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein) online payments to have additional authentication, came into effect on 1.1.2021.
This authentication is called Strong Customer Authentication (SCA)
How does strong customer authentication affect me?
When shopping online, you may be required to complete one additional authentication step, for example when making a deposit using a bank or credit card or an e-wallet. How this is done in practice depends on your bank. Some banks use an authentication code that the customer receives from the bank, for example by text message or email for each transaction. Other banks use mobile authentication, an app that you can only use on your own device. Facial and fingerprint recognition may also serve as strong authentication methods.
